Surface mountable temperature measurement device options:
JWF offers a wide range of ABB temperature measurement products for standard and bespoke applications. Surface temperature measurement products allow the end user the ability to monitor the temperature of the surface, such as a vessel or pipe, without having to interrupt the instrument's process. This method provides a compromise between accuracy and cost, by allowing non-intrusive indication of the process temperature, without having to break the retaining pipe/vessel wall. It is used predominantly in extreme process conditions, such as high velocity, which makes the use of a Thermowell very difficult.
Option 1: Strap on type (click here for drawing)
This is an extremely robust option: the entire assembly is clamped to the vessel / pipe wall. The sensor is secured along the pipe using a heat sink block and stainless steel jubilee strap. The sensor is then lagged to ensure accuracy, as this reduces influences which may cause error from ambient temperature changes.
Option 2: Remote transmitter with a strap on sensor (click here for drawing)
As above in the RTD probe, this model is also secured using a jubilee-type strap. The transmitter is then remotely mounted on a wall or 2 inch pipe stand. This is particularly useful when the process transmitter is high and may cause damage to the transmitter, as it allows the transmitter to be mounted away from the heat source.
Option 3: Bespoke type (click here for drawing)
This design has been used for multiple sensors, all wired back to one remote junctoin box. This design is useful when looking for an all-in-one solution.
