New Function Release with FLEXIM WD Series
With the FLEXIM FLUXUS WD clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter, water suppliers can now monitor volume flow, velocity, and temperature with one device.
Precise temperatures measurement based on the velocity of sound. The sound velocity of water changes rapidly on the temperature range 0°C - 30°C.
With this functionality this allows suppliers to detect both leaks in their network along with elevated temperature. All this measured in a non-invasive way with no disruption or shutdowns needed.
Average temperatures and heat waves are increasing globally (there may be an argument against this for those living in Scotland).
Elevated water temperatures have often been associated with increase bacteria abundance in drinking water distribution systems.
Legionella bacteria is commonly found in water. The bacteria multiply where temperatures are between 20°C - 45°C and nutrients are available. The bacteria are dormant below 20°C and do not survive above 60°C.
- Suppliers regularly take samples from the water distribution network for quality checks
- Usually there are few or no permanent water quality monitoring points
- Without any knowledge of elevated temperatures in the drinking water countermeasures cannot be taken, such as increasing flow velocities in the affected section
