As part of its commitment to meeting the UK’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) requirements, Glenmorangie, the historic single malt distillery based in Tain, set out to upgrade its monitoring and reporting infrastructure.
Glenmorangie required a technology partner that could transform its current reporting and compliance requirements. Specifically, it needed to:
While the existing system had served its purpose for many years, advances in technology meant that reliance on a videographic recorder, limited-capacity SD cards and manual data downloads was no longer sustainable. As operating systems evolved and storage formats shifted, maintaining the legacy setup became increasingly complex. Concerns around data integrity, accessibility and long-term security ultimately prompted the distillery to reassess how it captured, managed and future-proofed its compliance reporting.
With these challenges in mind, the team at JWF devised a smart upgrade plan:
This approach preserved the original hardware investment made by the distillery (which included flow, pressure and temperature instrumentation), avoiding costly sensor replacements, while modernising the data infrastructure. Instead of manual SD card downloads and local storage, Glenmorangie’s data is now securely stored in the cloud, backed by Amazon Web Services and accessible remotely whenever needed.
By upgrading to a cloud-based reporting system, Glenmorangie achieved:
This project demonstrates JWF’s ability to support industrial clients beyond instrumentation supply, providing data architecture, compliance-driven support and secure reporting environments.
For Glenmorangie, the outcome was not cost savings or operational efficiency gains on this occasion, but something equally important: compliance certainty, secure data management and a modernised reporting framework fit for the future.
For the first time, Glenmorangie has been able to claim £500,000 from the RHI initiative since installing their plant in 2017.
